Technical Architecture: How Selective PDF Page-Tree Slicing Works
When extracting pages from a multi-hundred-page PDF manual, court filing, or bank statement, naive tools often keep the entire document’s shared resource dictionary intact — resulting in a 1-page PDF that still weighs 20 MB.
ViewAnyFile.app’s PDF Splitter constructs a clean, minimal ISO 32000-1 `/Catalog` for your selected page indices (`0`-indexed internally, `1`-indexed in the UI):
- Dependency-Only Resource Copying: Using `PDFDocument.copyPages()`, our in-browser engine traverses the selected `/Page` nodes and copies only the font descriptors, vector form XObjects, and image streams referenced by those exact pages, leaving behind the rest of the source document’s payload.
- Flexible Range & Burst Modes: Extract a contiguous range (such as `1-5`), cherry-pick non-sequential pages (`1, 4, 9-12`), or burst an entire multi-page PDF into standalone single-page files bundled inside a local ZIP archive.
- 100% Local Memory Execution: Redacting or separating sensitive pages from a larger dossier happens entirely inside your browser tab before you ever share the file externally.
